NICA-Friends: "Mission of the Foundation is to collect funds and/or materials to help children from the poorest areas in Nicaragua. Herewith we can offer them an opportunity to follow a better education at primary school, secondary school and also at university. Our Foundation will collect funds and/or materials and will donate these to one or more recognized NGO’s in Nicaragua, that will actively and dedicated work to improve the education of the children, profitless. Additionally the local NGO will work primarily with volunteers and therefore can proof that a minimum of 98% from our donations will be spent on the children or projects for the children."
We visited Nicaragua in 2013 the first time and travelled over 7 weeks in this authentic and amazing country. Astonishing beautiful nature, warm and friendly people, hospitality all-over and a safe country to travel. We had the opportunity to see a lot but doing so ... we also saw the other part ... the extreme poverty.
Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in Latin-America: 50% of the people have to live from $2 per day. Children don’t get the opportunities at all, as we do in our part of the world. Poor schools, insufficient education especially in the barrios (poor areas), lack of materials in schools, etc. etc. With this bearing in mind we decided to start helping children in Nicaragua and founded Nica-Friends. Because we want to help them as they deserve a proper education as well to get an opportunity to escape from the extreme poverty.
With the help of family, friends and companies Nica-Friends was founded on April 29th 2013. With their donations as well as donations from other institutions like local schools and especially 'Kringloopwinkel Stichting Een Aarde' we can really help them as much as possible.
La Esperanza Granada
During our first trip we visited the NGO La Esperanza in Granada (means ‘Hope’). This NGO was managed at that time by 100% volunteer Pauline Jackson, a former inhabitant of Australia but successfully active in this organization in Granada since 2005. Her organization then consisted mainly of volunteers, local and especially many international people that wanted to help. In the meantime due to severe political issues in 2018 and COVID 19 all international volunteers have disappeared and the NGO is being managed now by Roberto Picado, a native Nicaraguan and with the support of many local Educadores.
La Esperanza does extremely good work in all of the poor barrios around Granada and in that way helps so many young children to get a better education. La Esperanza has constructed and owns now 4 Learning Centers in these barrios where some 200-300 children visit them daily. The centers are operated with their own Educadores. Young University students that are being sponsored by many different people around the world. They are educated by La Esperanza to become good teachers as well, both pedagogical as well on life skills.

NICA-Amigos: “La misión de la Fundación es recaudar fondos y/o materiales para ayudar a los niños de las zonas más pobres de Nicaragua. Con esto podemos ofrecerles la oportunidad de seguir una mejor educación en la escuela primaria, secundaria y también en la universidad. Nuestra Fundación recolecta fondos y/o materiales para donarlos a una o más ONGs reconocidas en Nicaragua, que trabajan activamente y dedicadas para mejorar la educación de los niños. Además, las ONGs local trabajaran principalmente con voluntarios y por lo tanto un 98% de nuestras donaciones se gastará en los niños o proyectos para los niños".
Visitamos Nicaragua en 2013 por primera vez y recorrimos durante 7 semanas este auténtico y sorprendente país. Asombrosa y hermosa naturaleza, gente cálida y amigable, hospitalidad en todas partes y un país seguro para viajar. Tuvimos la oportunidad de ver mucho, pero al hacerlo también vimos la otra parte ... la pobreza extrema.
Nicaragua es uno de los países más pobres de América Latina, el 50% de la población tiene que vivir desde 2 dólares al día. Los niños no tienen oportunidades en absoluto, como nosotros en nuestra parte del mundo. Escuelas deficientes, educación insuficiente especialmente en los barrios (zonas pobres), falta de materiales en las escuelas, etc. etc. Teniendo esto en cuenta, decidimos comenzar a ayudar a los niños en Nicaragua y fundamos Nica-Friends, queremos ayudarlos ya que merecen una educación adecuada y tener la oportunidad de escapar de la pobreza extrema.
Nica-Friends se fundó el 29 de abril de 2013 con la ayuda de familiares, amigos y empresas. Con sus donaciones, así como las donaciones de otras instituciones como escuelas locales y especialmente 'Kringloopwinkel Stichting Een Aarde', realmente podemos ayudar tanto como sea posible.
La Esperanza Granada
Durante nuestro primer viaje visitamos la ONG La Esperanza en Granada. Esta ONG estaba gestionada en ese momento por Pauline Jackson 100% voluntaria, proveniente de Australia, pero activa con éxito en esta organización en Granada desde 2005. Su organización entonces estaba formada principalmente por voluntarios locales y especialmente muchas personas internacionales que querían ayudar. Debido a graves problemas políticos en 2018 y COVID 19, todos los voluntarios internacionales han desaparecido y la ONG está siendo administrada ahora por Roberto Picado, un nicaragüense nativo y con el apoyo de muchos educadores locales.
La Esperanza hace un trabajo extremadamente bueno en todos los barrios pobres de Granada y de esa manera ayuda a tantos niños y niñas pequeños a obtener una mejor educación. La Esperanza ha construido 4 Centros de Aprendizaje en estos barrios donde unos 200-300 niños los visitan diariamente. Los centros son operados con sus propios educadores, quienes son jóvenes estudiantes universitarios que están siendo patrocinados por diferentes personas en todo el mundo. Los educadores son capacitados por La Esperanza para convertirse también en buenos maestros, tanto pedagógicos como en habilidades para la vida.
